Milbank Continues to Build Leading European Antitrust Practice with Addition of Partner Nicholas Spearing to London Office

Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy LLP has significantly enhanced its European competition law practice with the arrival of leading antitrust lawyer Nicholas Spearing, who has joined the firm as a partner in its London office.

Mr. Spearing is widely recognised as one of Europe’s top antitrust practitioners. Milbank Vice-Chairman and litigation partner Scott Edelman commented, “We are excited to be growing our antitrust practice, which is a core element of our global strategy. Nicholas Spearing is regarded as a leading competition lawyer in Europe. His arrival not only fits our existing European competition practice but will complement and enhance our corporate and litigation practices globally.”

Alexander Rinne, a Milbank antitrust partner in Munich, added, “The addition of Nicholas is a major step towards offering our clients preeminent advice in all areas of antitrust law across Europe with the resources to deal with any matter. I cannot think of a more skilled or experienced practitioner to build out our antitrust capabilities in London and throughout Europe.”

Mr. Spearing had been a partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP since 1984. His practice covers all areas of antitrust law, in particular merger control, cartel and dominance investigations and sector inquiries.

Mr. Spearing has served as lead counsel in many of the highest-profile merger control cases in Europe for more than two decades. He is also a regular commentator on EU and UK competition law.
