Baker Hostetler announced that Edmund W. Searby joined the firm’s Litigation Group as Partner in its Cleveland, Ohio office where his practice will focus on white collar defense and corporate investigations, securities litigation, antitrust and commercial litigation. He comes to Baker Hostetler from McDonald Hopkins LLC.
Searby is a nationally known trial attorney and litigator. He has served as a federal prosecutor with the Department of Justice and the Office of the Independent Counsel, Washington, D.C. He prosecuted fraud, international drug trafficking and money laundering, organized crime, public corruption and other complex criminal activity. For his work, Searby received letters of commendation from the Attorney General of the United States and the Director of the FBI.
In private practice, Searby has represented corporations and individuals in high stakes civil litigation and in criminal investigations and prosecutions. This includes notable cases involving alleged global antitrust cartels, securities fraud, healthcare fraud and public corruption. He has won multi-week jury trials for leading corporations. Throughout his career, Searby has tried more than 35 jury trials, bench trials and arbitrations and argued eight times before the federal courts of appeals. The World Bank hired Searby as a part of a team of lawyers and economists to instruct judges and enforcement officials in Tanzania on antitrust enforcement.
Searby received his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School and an A.B. from Dartmouth College. He is an Executive Committee and Board Member for the Lakeview Cemetery Association and serves on the Board of Directors for the Achievement Centers for Children.
