Bingham expanded its technology, life sciences and emerging growth company capabilities in Boston with the addition of Michael Barron as a partner in the Corporate Practice Group.
Joining from DLA Piper’s Boston office, where he was a corporate and securities partner, Barron represents technology and life sciences companies and advises companies, entrepreneurs and investors in the areas of formation and governance, early and later-stage debt and equity financings, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property matters.
“Michael’s substantial emerging growth company and life sciences practice complements Bingham’s strategy and commitment to further invest in our technology and life sciences strengths, particularly in Boston and Northern California,” said Steven Browne, managing partner for the Boston office and co-leader of the Corporate Practice Group.
Barron has closed approximately $1 billion in venture financings, including the largest venture capital financing in the U.S. in the second quarter of 2011. He is also the founder of the Massachusetts Innovation & Technology Exchange, a trade association serving more than 7,000 New England professionals involved in Internet and digital technologies industries.
“Michael is highly respected among lawyers who practice in the life sciences and tech arenas as well as industry leaders,” said partner Julio Vega, who represents emerging growth companies and established businesses in all areas of technology. “He is an excellent addition to Bingham.”
Barron noted that Bingham’s commitment to growing its emerging companies, technology and life sciences practices locally, nationally and internationally attracted him to the firm.
“The firm’s platform is far-reaching and deep in markets that will benefit our tech and life sciences clients from their early stages and beyond,” said Barron, noting the firm’s Boston roots and current investment in its Silicon Valley office. Last year, Bingham added three partners to its renowned tax practice with transfer-pricing experience important to the tech industry. “It’s a well-run firm with a focus on growing key practices that advance clients’ interests in the long-term.”
