Fox Rothschild Bolsters IP Litigation Practice with DC Additions

Fox Rothschild LLP has significantly strengthened its national intellectual property practice with the addition of a prestigious group of patent litigators in the firm’s Washington, DC office.

The group includes veteran IP attorney Sunwoo Lee, Ph.D, Benjamin E. Maskell, and Donald L. Monin, adding depth to the IP practice with their patent litigation experience and advanced knowledge in a diverse range of technologies. They hail from distinguished careers at a variety of AmLaw 100 firms.

Dr. Sunwoo Lee joins Fox Rothschild as a partner. Lee handles patent, trademark, copyright and trade secrets litigation matters for a variety of businesses, from Fortune 100 companies to small start-ups. His deep technical knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and materials science allows Lee to provide insightful, business savvy legal advice to domestic and foreign clients in all aspects of intellectual property law. Lee has litigated cases as lead counsel involving patent infringement, trademark infringement and trade secrets disputes in federal district courts as well as Section 337 intellectual property investigations before the International Trade Commission. He counsels clients in patent mining in addition to building and managing strategic domestic and foreign patent and trademark portfolios, and prosecuting patents related to electronic and mechanical devices as well as process- and software-based technologies.

A prolific writer and speaker, Lee shares his knowledge of intellectual property law involving scientific and engineering products and processes in various scientific journals and at seminars throughout the world. He earned his J.D. from George Mason University School of Law, his Ph.D. in Solid State Science and Technology from Syracuse University, his M.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology, and his B.S. from Hanyang University College of Engineering.

Maskell joins the firm as an associate. He focuses his practice on patent and trademark litigation. Maskell has extensive experience enforcing and defending patent claims and has successfully represented a variety of companies in IP litigation matters. Maskell has a strong background in computer technologies including encryption, networks, information systems security, web technologies, distributed computing, operating systems, communications protocols, data optimization and compression, computer forensics, automation, WiFi, Bluetooth and VoIP. He also has experience with mobile communications, LEDs, LCDs, semiconductors, digital systems, public infrastructure technology and RFiD. Maskell holds a J.D. from George Mason University School of Law and a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Virginia.

Monin joins Fox Rothschild as a senior patent agent. He routinely provides research and technical assistance in patent counseling matters and in patent litigations. His technical assistance includes thorough analyses in matters of infringement, invalidity and design-arounds. He also prosecutes and drafts patent applications relating to semiconductor technologies as well as electro-mechanical and mechanical technologies. Monin has made appearances before the United States Patent & Trademark Office Board of Appeals and Patent Interferences and conducted numerous in-person interviews with patent examiners. Monin worked for the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office for more than a decade as a patent examiner in semiconductor devices. He holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
