Jeffrey B. Coopersmith, Litigator Experienced with White-Collar Criminal Matters, Joins Davis Wright Tremaine LLP

Jeffrey B. Coopersmith, a former federal prosecutor with extensive experience defending clients in white-collar criminal matters, has joined Davis Wright Tremaine LLP as a partner. He will practice out of the firm’s Seattle and San Francisco offices.

Coopersmith is a seasoned litigator who has represented a multitude of corporate and individual clients across the globe in enforcement proceedings and investigations relating to securities, antitrust, corruption, health care, tax, banking, and other areas. Coopersmith has also represented clients in complex commercial litigation in many jurisdictions around the country.

Earlier in his career, Coopersmith served eight years as an Assistant United States Attorney for the Western District of Washington, where he coordinated corporate and securities fraud investigation and prosecution efforts. He most recently spent seven years as a partner at DLA Piper.

“Jeff’s substantial experience in investigations involving the Department of Justice, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and other federal and state agencies will further strengthen our defense of individuals and businesses in these complex, sensitive matters,” said DWT litigation partner Mark Bartlett, who joined DWT in 2010 after a 25-year career with the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

“The knowledge and relationships Jeff brings to the firm will be of great benefit to all clients facing enforcement proceedings or conducting internal investigations,” said Douglas Ross, chair of DWT’s litigation practice.

Coopersmith has been a frequent national speaker on white-collar enforcement. Among his recent clients was the former CFO of Countrywide Financial Corporation, whom Coopersmith successfully represented in SEC litigation.

“I’m very pleased to be able to bring my practice to a firm as dynamic as Davis Wright,” said Coopersmith. “The firm’s team approach to serving clients will be immensely valuable to my current and future clients.”

Coopersmith received his A.B. in Economics from Duke University and his J.D. from Emory University School of Law, where he graduated first in his class. He is licensed in Washington, California, and the District of Columbia.
