Donna K. Thiel, a healthcare lawyer with extensive experience in Medicare coverage, payment and compliance, and Theresa E. Weir, a lawyer specializing in healthcare regulatory matters, have joined King & Spalding’s healthcare practice as a partner and counsel, respectively, the firm announced today. They joined King & Spalding’s Washington, D.C., office from Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, where Thiel was a shareholder and co-chair of the drug, device and life sciences industry group, and Weir was a counsel.

“Donna and Tracy are highly regarded lawyers who bring additional strength to our healthcare capabilities in Washington,” said Jon R. We welcome them to the firm.”

She received a J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law and a B.A. degree, cum laude, from Drew University.

Weir represents clients on a wide array of matters, including health care regulatory counseling on Medicare reimbursement and compliance and administrative hearings before the Office of Medicare Hearings and Appeals (OMHA) and the Provider Reimbursement Review Board, and competition issues affecting health care clients. She also routinely counsels clients on data privacy and security matters that arise from federal and state laws, including HIPAA, HITECH, and state data breach laws and has substantial experience with HIPAA/HITECH compliance. Weir has been recognized as an outstanding healthcare antitrust lawyer by Nightingale’s Healthcare News.
