Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP is pleased to announce the continued expansion of its White Collar Criminal Defense practice group with the addition of former Assistant U.S. Attorney (AUSA) Ty E. Howard as a partner in the firm’s Nashville office.
With the recent addition of Gregory G. Marshall to the firm’s Washington, D.C., office, Mr. Howard is the second former federal prosecutor to join the firm in the last month. Mr. Howard also is the second major addition to the Nashville office since last December, when Amy S. Leopard joined the firm as a partner in the Health Care practice group.
An accomplished trial attorney with more than a decade of experience handling complex white collar cases as a federal and state prosecutor, Mr. Howard spent the last four years as an AUSA and member of the White Collar and Economic Crimes Division of the Middle District of Tennessee. Mr. Howard led investigations and prosecuted some of the state’s largest white collar criminal cases, including those involving securities, health care, ERISA, fraud, money laundering, and identity theft. In his role as lead counsel for the United States, Mr. Howard gained valuable experience working closely with agents and civil regulators at the IRS, SEC, departments of Health and Human Services and Labor, Secret Service, and FBI, as well as multiple state agencies.

Mr. Marshall, who joined the firm in February, spent 12 years with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the District of Columbia, and served for 20 months as Deputy Chief of its federal court Criminal Division.

Mr. Spivack also is a former federal prosecutor, having served as a supervisor in the Criminal Division of the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office. The firm’s White Collar practice also includes former prosecutor and practice group co-head Jack Selden, who served as an AUSA and United States Attorney in the Northern District of Alabama. Based in the firm’s Birmingham, Ala., office, Mr. Selden is a past President of the National Association of Former United States Attorneys.

Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Mr. Howard was with Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP and Dechert LLP in Philadelphia, where he focused his practice on complex civil litigation, white collar litigation and corporate investigations. He also served for three years as an Assistant District Attorney in Chester County, Pa., successfully prosecuting major criminal cases involving fraud, financial crimes, embezzlement, and cybercrime, as well as various violent and drug-related crimes. Mr. Howard began his legal career as a law clerk for U.S. District Judge J. Curtis Joyner of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
Before his legal career, Mr. Howard worked in several public policy roles, including as a legislative aide for U.S. Senator Fred Thompson and in a health care policy position with the government relations department of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from Georgetown University Law Center, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Pennsylvania, and a B.A., with distinction, in political science from Pennsylvania State University.
