Bingham McCutchen LLP has expanded its Antitrust and Trade Regulation Group in its Washington, D.C., and London offices with the addition of Edward ‘Ted’ Henneberry.
A prominent practitioner who has served as a senior competition enforcement officer in the European Union (E.U.), Henneberry joins Bingham from Orrick.

Henneberry’s arrival underscores Bingham’s commitment to building upon its renowned antitrust practice in strategic venues, said Richard Taffet, a senior litigation partner responsible for advancing Bingham’s global antitrust strategy. “The E.U. will continue to be an increasingly significant jurisdiction for antitrust law,” said Taffet. “Ted will help us expand our E.U. antitrust capabilities in London and as we look to extend our antitrust presence to continental Europe. This is an important part of our global strategy that also includes Asian jurisdictions.”
Bingham’s antitrust group has more than 70 lawyers with significant and diverse experience in the U.S., U.K. and Asia. Bingham lawyers are involved in high-profile antitrust matters making headlines today, representing clients in several industries such technology (Intel, Sharp, QUALCOMM), financial services (Morgan Stanley, Freddie Mac, Royal Bank of Canada) and energy (RRI Energy, Inc.).
For Henneberry, the caliber of Bingham’s antitrust lawyers, its reputation among particularly the technology and financial services sectors, and its commitment in building upon a 500-lawyer global litigation force attracted him to the firm.

Henneberry focuses his practice on antitrust and international competition law, particularly on cross-border merger transactions, multijurisdictional cartel investigations and dominant firm conduct. From 2003 to 2006, he was appointed as a member of the Irish Competition Authority where he also acted as a director of the Mergers and Cartel Enforcement divisions. Henneberry began his career as a trial attorney in the Honors program at the DOJ’s Antitrust Division.
Henneberry’s arrival is Bingham’s latest investment in building upon its antitrust strength. In 2010, the firm expanded its antitrust team to the London office with the addition of Davina Garrod, who joined from McDermott Will & Emery and focuses on antitrust issues affecting the financial services industry. In June 2009, Hill Wellford, former chief of staff of the Antitrust Division at the U.S. Department of Justice, joined Bingham’s antitrust practice in Washington. In November 2008, Bingham added three antitrust partners to its Washington, D.C., office: Leiv Blad, Jon Roellke and Boyd Cloern from Clifford Chance. In 2007, Bingham’s antitrust presence in Japan grew with combinations with two leading Tokyo firms, Sakai & Mimura and New Tokyo International.
