Husch Blackwell Strengthens Intellectual Property Litigation Capabilities with Bio-pharmaceutical Expert

Husch Blackwell has added Robert M. Gould as a Partner in the Intellectual Property Litigation department of its Chicago, Ill., office. He is a registered patent attorney who focuses his practice on intellectual property law, including patent and trademark litigation, prosecution and due diligence in the pharmaceutical, food science and biotechnology industries.

Gould has experience prosecuting inter-partes re-examination proceedings and the strategic use of re-examination proceedings in conjunction with patent infringement litigation. He also counsels clients in Abbreviated New Drug Applications and follow-on biologics issues, particularly with regard to patent validity and infringement and strategy.
“Bob brings a very unique set of credentials,” said James P. White, Partner and Co-chair of Husch Blackwell’s Intellectual Property Litigation Department. “With a Ph.D. in biochemistry and years of pharmaceutical experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation, he’s a leader in the field and a great asset for our clients.”
Gould comes to Husch Blackwell from Duane Morris LLP where he served for the past four years. While there, he represented generic drug companies in ANDA litigation as the lead technical attorney, drafting patent noninfringement and invalidity opinions, patent and trademark prosecution, and counseling.
Previously Gould served as Vice President of Intellectual Property for Integrated DNA Technologies Inc., where he handled all aspects of U.S. and foreign patent and trademark prosecution, patent infringement and patentability options, negotiation, and drafting of license agreements.
Gould received his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center (1996), his Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Iowa (1988) and his B.S. in chemistry from the University of Illinois (1981). He is a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association and the Intellectual Property Law Association of Chicago, and was listed in Illinois Leading Lawyers in 2009.
