Freshfields Advises General Motors on Global Strategic Alliance with PSA Peugeot Citroën

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised General Motors (GM) on its global strategic alliance with PSA Peugeot Citroën.

The alliance comprises the sharing of vehicle platforms, components and modules, as well as a global purchasing agreement for the sourcing of commodities, components and other goods and services from suppliers with combined annual purchasing volumes of approximately $125 billion. As part of the agreement, GM will also acquire a 7 per cent equity stake in PSA Peugeot Citroën, making it the second-largest shareholder behind the Peugeot Family Group. 
Freshfields previously advised GM on its strategic alliance with Fiat in 2000. 
The Freshfields team consisted of corporate partners Andreas Fabritius, Markus Paul and corporate counsel Markus Stephanblome in Frankfurt, corporate partners Hervé Pisani, Fabrice Cohen and corporate counsel Denis Barat in Paris, competition partner Frank Montag and competition associate Ben Graham in Brussels as well as competition partner Bob Schlossberg in Washington, D.C. 
Freshfields worked closely with the GM in-house team legal team, who provided advice on SEC/securities regulations, antitrust, export controls, and purchasing and logistics.
