Wiggin and Dana is pleased to announce the expansion of its Insurance Practice Group with the addition of partner Michael P. Thompson, who joins the firm from Edwards Wildman. Mr. Thompson will be resident in the firm’s Stamford office.

“We are always looking to add to our strengths, and Michael brings a skill set and an international reputation that meshes well with our core group in the insurance area,” said Bob Benjamin, Executive Committee Chair. “We are happy to welcome him to the firm.”

Mr. Thompson, an internationally recognized lawyer in the insurance industry, joins the firm with more than 15 years practicing in the insurance and reinsurance industry, including prior practice in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Thompson advises insurers and reinsurers worldwide on complex commercial matters. He has successfully represented many major insurers, ceding companies, reinsurers and retrocessionaires on matters involving claims, coverage and regulatory issues, across all business lines. 

He has appeared before courts and arbitration panels throughout the United States and has assisted in proceedings before various tribunals in the United Kingdom. 

In addition to his busy litigation practice, Mr. Thompson has been active in many high profile state and local activities. His term as Chairman of the Connecticut Judicial Selection Committee, to which he was appointed by Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell in 2008, recently concluded. He was appointed by Governor Dannel P. Malloy to serve on the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Lottery Corporation. Mr. Thompson was also appointed by Chief Justice Chase Rogers of the Connecticut Supreme Court to serve on the Connecticut Judicial Performance Evaluation Committee. 

He received his J.D., with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Connecticut Journal of International Law. He received his A.B. in English from Dartmouth College and an M.A. in Liberal Arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland.
