Perkins Coie is pleased to announce that Judy Jennison, Michael Scoville and Karl Klassen have joined the firm in Seattle. Jennison rejoins as Partner in the Litigation practice, Scoville joins as Partner in the Product Liability practice and Klassen joins as Of Counsel in the Intellectual Property practice.

Jennison focuses her practice on intellectual property and antitrust litigation and counseling. She rejoins the firm from Microsoft, where she led the company’s Copyright and Trade Secret Group, served as Associate General Counsel for one of the company’s business units and most recently was responsible for significant aspects of the company’s antitrust compliance efforts. Jennison has significant copyright litigation expertise in the software area and before joining Microsoft was lead counsel for the successful search engine defendant in Kelly v. Arriba Soft, a landmark Fair Use case.
Scoville focuses his practice on aviation and aerospace product liability matters. He joins the firm from the Criminal Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Seattle, where he served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 2008 to 2011 and specialized in the investigation and prosecution of organized fraud rings. Before that, Scoville was a law clerk to Judge J. Michael Luttig of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and then to Justice Anthony M. Kennedy of the U.S. Supreme Court.
Klassen focuses his practice on strategic patent portfolio management and counseling. He regularly counsels both national and international corporations in freedom-to-operate analyses and other intellectual property due diligence and patent licensing. Klassen has managed patent portfolios of a wide range of medical device companies, including companies that have received more than $100 million in financing or investment and early stage venture-backed companies. He has extensive experience with medical devices, aerospace technology, semiconductor processing equipment and Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems.
Jennison earned her J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, where she served as Managing Business Editor for the Rutgers Law Review, and her A.B. from Smith College. Scoville received his J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School, where he served as Notes Editor for the Harvard Law Review. He received a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Munich, Germany, and earned his B.A., summa cum laude, from Washington University in St. Louis. Klassen received his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, his M.S. from Stanford University and his B.S., with high honors, from California State University Fullerton.
