Shearman & Sterling will strengthen its globally recognized project finance practice with the addition of John Inglis, who has established an exceptional marketplace reputation during his more than 20 years of experience.
Mr. Inglis will join the firm from Ashurst, where he is a partner in the London office.
“John is a great addition to our firm, with his exceptional legal skills and his reputation for outstanding client service,” said Rohan S. Weerasinghe, Shearman & Sterling’s senior partner. “John’s arrival reinforces our commitment to continuing to grow our first-rate project finance practice.”
Tim Pick, the London-based global head of the firm’s project finance group, added: “John is a great fit for us and for our client base. He has strong relationships with key financial institutions and corporates, and we look forward to having him work with his new Shearman & Sterling colleagues here in Europe and around the world.”
Mr. Inglis’s focus has been on energy and natural resources transactions across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and he also enjoys strong relationships in particular with energy companies based in Asia, export credit agencies and international banks. While at Ashurst, he was part of the firm’s energy, transport and infrastructure group. Prior to his time at Ashurst, he was a partner at Norton Rose, working in its London, Bahrain, and Amsterdam offices and serving as head of the Energy Products Group. Mr. Inglis has worked with sponsors, financiers, and other project participants on diverse power generation, metals, petrochemicals, refinery, LNG, and upstream oil and gas projects, as well as various infrastructure projects. Highly regarded in the marketplace, he has been acknowledged in Legal 500 2011 as “an asset on any transaction” and by Chambers UK 2011 for his “easy manner in negotiations and sound commercial understanding” and for being “a pleasure to deal with, as either sponsors’ or lenders’ counsel.”
“This is a very exciting opportunity for me,” Mr. Inglis said. “There are great synergies between the work I have been doing, especially with developers based in Asia and international banks, and Shearman & Sterling’s outstanding global platform.”
