The national law firm of Epstein Becker Green today announced that O. Benton Curtis III, a health care fraud and abuse attorney, has joined the Health Care and Life Sciences and the Litigation practices as a Member of the Firm in its Washington, D.C., office.
Curtis was previously an Assistant Deputy Chief and Trial Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice, Criminal Fraud Section. During his tenure, Curtis investigated and prosecuted several health care fraud cases in multiple federal district courts. In addition, he supervised agents and coordinated with U.S. Attorney’s Offices, the FBI, HHS-OIG, and Medicare Fraud Control Units to manage numerous investigations and trial dockets. Prior to his stint with the Fraud Section, Curtis was also an Assistant U.S. Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Southern District of Florida, as well as a Special Assistant to the Assistant Attorney General with the U.S. Department of Justice, Civil Rights Division.
“Ben’s experience in health care fraud is extensive, and his addition to the team will be an added benefit. In fact, he recently received an award from the Assistant Attorney General for ‘Exceptional Efforts in Leading the Investigation and Prosecution of Medicare Fraud in Strike Force Cities Across the Country,'” said Wendy C. Goldstein, Chair of the Firm’s National Health Care and Life Sciences Steering Committee. The award recognizes recipients for their significant and unique contributions toward achieving the overall goals of the Criminal Division.
Curtis said, “I was drawn to EBG because of its stellar fraud and abuse practice. The attorneys at the firm are up to speed on the fraud and abuse laws as they continue to evolve, as new laws are passed, and as new cases are tested in the courts. I am looking forward to being a part of this dynamic team.”
