Lindquist & Vennum Welcomes New Partner Patrick R. Burns to Alternative Dispute Resolution Practice

Lindquist & Vennum PLLP is pleased to announce that Patrick R. Burns has joined the firm’s Minneapolis office as a partner.

 
Burns will focus his practice on alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and civil litigation.  When not serving as a neutral mediator or arbitrator, Burns represents individuals, businesses and non-profits with issues ranging from commercial, employment and consumer matters to franchise, corporate and contract matters.  One of only three mediators in Minnesota to be certified by the International Mediation Institute (IMI), he currently serves on the ValueSolve ADR and American Arbitration Association’s (AAA) national panels of mediators and arbitrators and was recently elected to chair the Minnesota State Bar Association’s 400-member Alternative Dispute Resolution Section for 2011-2012.  Prior to joining Lindquist & Vennum, Burns had a successful ADR and solo law practice.  Burns regularly serves as a mediator with the Minneapolis Department of Civil Rights and Hennepin County District Court, and was formerly vice president of the Minneapolis office of the American Arbitration Association.
An AV® Rated lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell, Burns’ experience as a trial lawyer includes representation of criminal defense, business, franchise and employment matters in military courts, state and federal courts, and in arbitration.  He has significant experience handling business, franchise, dealer and construction-related matters, insurance coverage disputes and personal injury claims.  Prior to establishing his solo practice, Burns served on active duty as an officer and trial lawyer in the Army JAG Corps, and worked at two prestigious Minneapolis law firms.
Burns earned his B.S., M.P.A. and J.D. degrees from the University of South Dakota, where he is an adjunct professor of law.  Minnesota Lawyer named him one of 20 “Up and Coming Attorneys” in the state in 2007, and in 2010 he was named a “Rising Star” in ADR and litigation by Minnesota Super Lawyers®.  He is currently pursuing a master of laws degree (LL.M) in Dispute Resolution from Pepperdine School of Law Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution in Malibu, California.
