Polsinelli Shughart Expands National Energy Practice

Polsinelli Shughart welcomes attorney Matthew E. Ross as a shareholder in the firm’s Business department where he will focus his practice on all aspects of energy law including assisting clients with developing renewable energy projects and in achieving energy efficient business practices. Ross holds LEED professional accreditation, the leading professional designation for the green building, construction and development industry.

“We are very pleased to add Matthew to the Energy Group. Matthew is a talented attorney who can assist clients in implementation of their energy and sustainability projects and initiatives while providing them excellent counsel toward achieving the most out of their efforts,” said Polsinelli Shughart Energy Chair Frank A. Caro, Jr.
“Matthew adds depth to our renewable energy bench, both geographically and substantively. Our already strong national wind, solar and ethanol practices will be strengthened by his experience in bioenergy and energy efficiency projects. With the addition of Matthew and our recent addition of energy attorney David Streicker in Chicago, the firm’s energy platform is right on track with where we want to be as we continue to serve our existing and future clients,” Caro added.
The Polsinelli Shughart Energy practice consists of attorneys in Chicago, Denver, Kansas City, Overland Park, Phoenix and Washington, D.C. Clients range from investor owned utilities and electric cooperatives, oil and gas producers, financial institutions, and national and international renewable energy companies.
Ross focuses his practice on energy law and has extensive experience in renewable energy, both from a transactional and regulatory perspective. He advises project developers, lenders, tax equity investors, private equity funds and technology suppliers and distributors on developing and financing renewable energy projects and on other energy transactions.
In addition, Ross has experience with energy performance contracting and providing advice relative to energy efficiency and conservation. In that regard, he actively works with both ESCOs and host facilities, such as commercial real estate developers, investors and managers, to achieve energy load and cost savings with energy efficiency and management strategies.
“I was attracted to Polsinelli Shughart because of the strength of its energy platform and the firm’s strong commitment to growth of its national energy practice,” Ross said. “I’m joining a strong and supportive group of knowledgeable energy attorneys, many of whom, like me, have departed other firms for the resources and depth of experience that Polsinelli Shughart affords us.”
Ross earned his law degree from the Brooklyn Law School and his B.A. degree from The Johns Hopkins University. He is a member of the District of Columbia Bar Association and the Energy Bar Association.
