Mayer Brown and Ramón y Cajal to Continue Alliance

Mayer Brown, a leading global law firm, and Ramón y Cajal, a leading Spanish law firm, announced today that they have reaffirmed their mutual commitment to the alliance relationship they formed in 2007, which has enabled them to provide clients of both firms with access to top-tier legal services in the key business centers of Europe, Asia and the Americas.

“Our joining forces as independent but allied firms has yielded significant benefits for our clients and our firms,” said Mayer Brown Chairman Bert  Krueger. “Mayer Brown clients with business interests in Spain have drawn on Ramón y Cajal’s depth of experience, knowledge and capabilities in that market, while Ramón y Cajal clients seeking investment opportunities outside Spain have tapped into Mayer Brown’s global network of 21 offices and wide range of legal practice specialties.  This has produced positive outcomes for our clients while strengthening client relationships for both firms.”
Key to the success of the alliance is the complementary practice capabilities of the two firms and their shared commitment to the highest standard of quality in legal work and client service, said Ramón y Cajal Managing Partner Francisco Palá. “This means that clients can be confident of receiving consistently superior work and service, regardless of which alliance firm they may be working with on a given matter.”
Since the launch of the alliance with Ramón y Cajal, Mayer Brown has continued to expand its global platform. In 2007, the firm opened an office in Sao Paulo, Brazil. This was followed in 2008 by a merger with JSM, a leading law firm in Asia with offices in Hong Kong, China, Vietnam and Thailand. And in 2010, Mayer Brown formed an association with the leading Brazilian law firm Tauil & Chequer.  Mayer Brown also has an alliance with leading Italian law firm Tonucci & Partners.
“These actions have enabled Mayer Brown to join the ranks of the world’s truly global law firms, with the geographic reach and practice area depth and breadth to serve clients’ legal and business needs wherever in the world they may arise,” Mr. Krueger said.
Founded in 1985, Ramón y Cajal is one of the ten largest law firms in Spain, with offices in Madrid and Barcelona and 90 lawyers, including 29 partners. The firm serves many of the largest Spanish companies in terms of market capitalization and has advised almost half the companies comprising the Ibex-35 Index. Ramón y Cajal’s clients also include the Spanish Government and related agencies and companies, as well as a growing number of foreign corporations.  The firm specializes in corporate law, focusing in the areas of commerce, finance, securities markets and taxes.
“Spain is an exciting and competitive market with growing demand for both inbound and outbound legal assistance,” Mr. Palá said. “Through our alliance, Mayer Brown and Ramón y Cajal  are ideally positioned to deliver significant value to clients while benefiting from the opportunities it will continue to create.”
