On December 10, 2010, the Inter-American Development Bank (“IDB”) closed on a US$30 million “green loan” to the Peruvian bank, BBVA Banco Continental. The proceeds of the loan are intended to finance projects that encourage energy efficiency and/or reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Peru.
Eligible projects to be supported by the loan include projects that increase energy savings and efficiency, including clean energy and industrial technology, as well as those that support integrated waste management, water and wastewater treatment and investments in renewable energy.
The U.S. based firm of Andrews Kurth LLP and the Peruvian firm of Pizarro, Botto & Escobar Abogados advised IDB on the financing.
