Freshfields Advises the Welsh Rugby Union on the Launch of its 130th Anniversary Series of Debentures

International law firm Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has advised the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) on the launch of its 130th anniversary series of debentures at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff. The debentures will entitle the holders to have a priority right to purchase tickets for all of the Welsh national team’s home rugby matches for the next fifteen years.

Freshfields corporate partner Tim Wilmot said: ‘We are delighted to have helped the WRU’s Head of Legal Affairs, Rhodri Lewis, and his team, launch their latest series of debentures, which will help many rugby fans support their team and enjoy the unique atmosphere at the Millennium Stadium for years to come. It’s our first job for the WRU and very much hope to be alongside them again in the future.’

Head of Legal Affairs for the WRU, Rhodri Lewis, commented: ‘This is an exciting and high profile project for the WRU. As the legislative framework has changed quite a bit since our last debenture issue, we are grateful to Freshfields for their help and expertise in guiding us through the regulatory complexities’.

The Freshfields team was led by corporate partner Tim Wilmot, with support from associate Ross Clements and trainee Ben Silver.
