Debevoise & Plimpton LLP today announced that Tony Dymond will join the firm as the sixth litigation partner in the firm’s London office. Mr. Dymond will join from Herbert Smith Freehills LLP, where he was co-head of the firm’s Seoul office.
Mr. Dymond is one of the world’s foremost litigators, having spent the last 20 years in London, Hong Kong and Seoul advising an international client base on complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes, in both litigation and arbitration. He has a broad commercial practice, with a focus on high-value construction and engineering disputes in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Mr. Dymond’s hire is the latest step in the considerable expansion of Debevoise’s litigation practice in London, coming shortly after Kevin Francis Lloyd (partner) and Richard Lawton (international counsel) joined the firm. In all, Debevoise’s London litigation team grew by 12 lawyers in 2013 alone.
Led by former Attorney General Lord Goldsmith QC, the London litigation practice acts for an international client base, including leading multinationals, international organizations, sovereigns and non-governmental organizations.
Michael W. Blair, Presiding Partner of Debevoise, said: “Tony Dymond’s arrival is great news for the firm. He is a highly respected lawyer with a truly international practice, and a key addition to our litigation team in London. Tony’s arrival also further demonstrates our commitment to provide premier English law advice to our clients.”
Lord Goldsmith QC, Chair of European and Asian Litigation, said: “Our litigation practice has been incredibly busy for some time, and the arrival of a lawyer of Tony’s caliber is testament to the litigation strength we have in London. Tony is widely regarded as a top litigator in the world, and his international experience is particularly impressive. He will add further strength to our litigation practice, which, together with our international arbitration, public international law and white collar crime practices, comprises one of the strongest teams in the City.”
Tony Dymond said: “High-stakes and cross-border litigation is a very competitive field in which to practice law. Debevoise has built a very impressive, highly talented team in London, and acts regularly on some of the world’s highest-profile, most business-critical cases. It is an exciting time to join the firm, and I look forward to playing my part in its continued success.”
Mr. Dymond previously practiced at the Bar in London, and is qualified as a barrister and solicitor in England and Wales. He is also qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong, and registered as a foreign legal consultant in South Korea.
