Akerman LLP, a leading law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced that William J. Spratt, Jr. has joined as a partner in the firm’s Healthcare Practice Group in Miami. Spratt joins Akerman from K&L Gates, bringing 25 years of experience representing the healthcare industry.
Spratt has represented virtually all sectors of the healthcare industry in governance, compliance and transactional matters. He has represented large companies and private equity sponsors in multi-jurisdictional transactions, including acquisitions, sales, mergers, and reorganizations of healthcare businesses, traversing complex state and federal healthcare laws and regulations. A former healthcare administrator, he has a diverse healthcare practice representing local, regional, national and international clients.

He also has taught health law as an adjunct faculty member in the Master of Health Administration programs at Florida Atlantic University and Nova Southeastern University. Board Certified in Health Law by The Florida Bar, he is the fourth lawyer in Akerman’s Healthcare Practice Group to previously serve as chair of The Florida Bar Health Law Certification Committee.
Spratt will work closely with the firm’s M&A and Private Equity lawyers. Earlier this year, Akerman completed significant deals within the health and pharmaceutical industries, including a $480 million stock acquisition of PROLOR Biotech, Inc. on behalf of OPKO Health Inc., as well as its $290 million acquisition of Cytochroma Inc.
