Akerman LLP, a leading law firm serving clients across the Americas, today announced the continued growth of its Labor & Employment Practice Group with Laura Prather. Prather has joined Akerman as a partner in the Tampa office where she brings nearly two decades of trial experience representing management in all facets of labor and employment law, enhancing Akerman’s capabilities in complex litigation and class actions.
Prather has represented employers in a wide range of industries, including healthcare and hospitality, in complex litigation cases and class actions related to employment discrimination under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, wage and hour matters, non-compete issues, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) issues, and whistleblower actions before federal and state courts, various government agencies, and arbitrators. She also handles Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) and Sarbanes-Oxley Act cases and regularly provides day-to-day advice, counseling, and training on labor and employment law compliance, including the development of employee policies and handbooks.
Prather is Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by The Florida Bar. She follows a wave of laterals joining Akerman’s Labor & Employment Practice Group, which recently welcomed a team of litigators in New York, including Matthew Steinberg, Samantha Abeysekera and Rebecca Cox; immigration lawyer Scott Bettridge in Miami; and Samantha Feuer in West Palm Beach.
The Akerman Labor & Employment Practice Group defends employers in virtually every major industry throughout the United States in all types of employment litigation, including class and collective actions, under federal, state, and local employment laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act. The group also represents employers in connection with employment law compliance, labor relations, ADA public access, workplace safety, global workforce issues, immigration, and non-compete and trade secret issues.
