Global law firm Baker & McKenzie is further enhancing its employment practice in Germany with the hire of one of the country’s leading labour lawyers.
Dr. Burkard Göpfert, LL.M, joins Baker & McKenzie on November 1, 2013 after 14 years at Gleiss Lutz. He will advise clients from Baker & McKenzie’s Munich and Frankfurt offices.
Burkard Göpfert advises companies in connection with the employment elements of complex national and cross-border transactions and restructurings. He also advises on compliance investigations and cross-border litigation.
“Burkard Göpfert is one of the leading employment lawyers in Germany and we have come to know him very well in the course of joint projects over a number of years. His focus is in sync with our own in terms of targeting global matters for global clients. His hire is a valuable addition to our Firm, particularly his experience in advising global players in connection with their most complex employment law needs in cross-border transactions, as well as his Asia experience,” said Guenther Heckelmann, head of Baker & McKenzie’s employment law practice group in Germany and Europe.
At Gleiss Lutz, he was also responsible for growing business from Asia. Baker & McKenzie is the largest global law firm in China and the Asia-Pacific region, where it has 15 offices and more than a thousand lawyers on the ground. Baker & McKenzie’s German offices regularly advise on Chinese investments in Germany, among other Asian matters.
“Baker & McKenzie offers a unique global platform, which covers the entire spectrum of corporate legal advice,” says Dr. Burkard Göpfert. “These are optimal conditions for the development of my practice.”
“We welcome Burkard to our team. He will help to strengthen our already highly reputable employment law practice group even further, and we will have a new colleague who is a great fit in our Firm and its strategic global focus,” added Dr. Constanze Ulmer-Eilfort, Managing Partner of Baker & McKenzie in Germany.
