Former Justice Department Senior Counsel Kevin Lyskowski Brings Unique Expertise to Faegre Baker Daniels’ Environmental Practice

Kevin Lyskowski, former senior counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice in the Environment and Natural Resources Division, has joined Faegre Baker Daniels LLP’s environmental practice as a partner in Washington, D.C.

With extensive experience in environmental litigation, Lyskowski will focus on representing manufacturing, energy, agricultural and municipal clients in Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enforcement actions. He will also provide strategic client counseling regarding EPA enforcement and regulatory priorities. In addition, Lyskowski will advise clients regarding the treatment of environmental liabilities in bankrupcy proceedings.

“We are excited about the depth of regulatory and litigation expertise that Kevin adds to our firm’s national environmental practice,” said Washington, D.C. office leader Dave Zook. “His Justice Department experience is an ideal complement to our current legal and consulting capabilities in this arena.”

Faegre Baker Daniels partner, Delmar Ehrich, who leads the firm’s environmental trial lawyers, added, “Kevin’s complex understanding of the federal laws and regulations directly affecting many of our clients will help us provide them with even greater service.”

Prior to joining FaegreBD, Lyskowski worked for 13 years in the Department of Justice’s Environment and Natural Resources Division, first as a trial attorney and then as senior counsel. In those roles, he represented the United States in enforcement actions across the country and under numerous environmental statutes, including CERCLA, RCRA, the Clean Air Act and the Clean Water Act. From 2009-2012, he oversaw the work of Department of Justice lawyers on environmental issues in bankruptcy cases, and as senior counsel, he handled some of the federal government’s most complicated and challenging environmental cases.

“I am excited to join Faegre Baker Daniels and move into this next chapter of my career,” said Lyskowski. “With the knowledge I’ve built through my years in the government, I hope to provide the best in service to clients seeking to navigate the regulatory landscape.”

Lyskowski graduated from Harvard Law School and received a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University, magna cum laude. He was given numerous awards for outstanding service by the Department of Justice and was a finalist for the Department’s highest honor, the John Marshall Award.
