Greenberg Traurig Strengthens Government Law & Policy Practice with Addition of Shareholder Jonathan P. Leleu

The international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP announced that Jonathan P. Leleu has joined its Las Vegas office as a shareholder in the Government Law & Policy Practice. Prior to joining the firm, Leleu was in-house counsel for International Market Centers, L.P., a tradeshow facility company co-located in Las Vegas, Nevada and High Point, North Carolina.

Leleu will focus his practice on governmental law and policy matters, where he has substantial experience working with public bodies on business-related issues, including economic development, tax, land use, and employment matters. He is also experienced in handling transactional and litigation matters, including land sale agreements, commercial loans, contract disputes, land use entitlement disputes, insurance coverage and bad faith disputes, and appellate matters.

“Having Jon join Greenberg Traurig adds a major talent to our Government Law & Policy Practice and we look forward to working with him,” said Thomas J. Bond, co-chair of the firm’s Government Law & Policy Practice and co-chair of its Insurance Regulatory and Transactions Practice.

While serving as in-house counsel for International Market Centers, L.P., Leleu worked with state and local officials to craft legislation and obtain entitlements that enabled the company to reach its maximum revenue potential. He also negotiated and amended the company’s tax increment financing agreement, enforced the company’s CIAC agreements with Southern Nevada’s public utilities, and in 2011, authored and lobbied the bicameral unanimous passage of Nevada’s first commercial leasing statute.

“We are thrilled Jon has decided to join us,” said Michael J. Bonner, managing shareholder of Greenberg Traurig’s Las Vegas office.  “He is an established governmental affairs professional with a great deal of experience working with local government entities. He will be a terrific asset to our clients and a perfect complement to our core strengths in Las Vegas and firmwide.”

Leleu is an active member of the community, serving as an executive member of the Downtown Las Vegas Alliance and the City of Las Vegas Economic Development Steering Committee. Leleu earned his J.D. from DePaul University College of Law and his B.A. from Loyola University, Chicago.

Leleu is the most recent hire in the trend of strategic expansion in Greenberg Traurig’s Las Vegas office. Other additions include Litigation shareholder Russell E. Marsh, who has extensive white collar, FCPA, counseling, compliance and investigatory experience; Real Estate and Corporate shareholder Jodi R. Goodheart, named to Best Lawyers in America for the last 10 years; and Intellectual Property and Technology of counsel Nancy R. Ayala, who has extensive experience litigating intellectual property related matters, including copyrights, trademarks, rights of publicity, trade secrets, and Internet related issues.
