Duane Morris Philadelphia Office Adds Trial Partner John C. Ryan

Duane Morris LLP is pleased to announce that John C. Ryan, a former partner at the firm, has rejoined Duane Morris’ Trial Practice Group as a partner in the Philadelphia office. Ryan joins the firm from ARAMARK Corporation, where he was Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. He was previously at Duane Morris as an associate from 1999 to 2003 and as a partner from 2004 to 2005.

Ryan most recently served as Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for ARAMARK, where he led the legal teams for ARAMARK’s Sports, Leisure & Corrections and Business & Industry operating groups and led ARAMARK’s IP and Supply Chain legal support. Ryan also served as counsel to ARAMARK’s Chief Compliance Officer. Prior to that role, he oversaw ARAMARK’s litigation and government investigations function and led the legal teams for ARAMARK’s Healthcare and Education operating groups. Ryan sat on ARAMARK’s Disclosure Committee and was on the board of directors of the ARAMARK PAC.

Ryan focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense and internal corporate investigations for public and private companies, corporate governance and commercial litigation. He represents service companies, public utilities, financial institutions, multinational manufacturing companies and educational institutions. Ryan counsels companies and their employees on compliance with criminal laws in heavily-regulated industries. Ryan has significant experience designing and implementing FCPA compliance programs around the world for multinational companies. He has conducted internal investigations into allegations of FCPA violations, particularly in Asia, Europe, South America and the Middle East.

Ryan was previously an assistant district attorney at the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, and he served as a member of the office’s Special Prosecutions Bureau. As a prosecutor, Ryan conducted grand jury investigations into healthcare fraud, employee embezzlement, consumer fraud and other white-collar crimes. Ryan was the lead prosecutor in a significant grand jury investigation into bribery and electronic data falsification at a large New York-based investment bank.

Since 2005, Ryan has served as director of the Philadelphia Diversity Law Group (PDLG), a consortium of law firms and corporations committed to increasing ethnic and racial diversity in Philadelphia’s larger law firms. PDLG was founded by Duane Morris partner and Chief Diversity Officer Nolan Atkinson.

Ryan is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in Pennsylvania and New York. He earned his J.D. in 1995 from Northwestern University School of Law and graduated in 1992 with a B.A. from New York University.
