Leading Funds Partner Michelle Moran Joins Ropes & Gray in London

Ropes & Gray is delighted to announce that Michelle Moran has joined the London office as a partner in its investment management practice. Ms. Moran brings further senior-level capability to the firm’s existing funds and financial services regulatory teams. Her practice focuses on the management and regulation of retail and institutional funds, including UCITS, ICVCs, investment trusts, hedge funds and real estate funds, and fits naturally with the funds sponsor focus of the practice.

Ms. Moran has extensive regulatory experience, having participated on the EU Commission working groups responsible for formulating proposals to change UCITS legislation. She was also a panel member of the expert liaison group and the investment bank advisory panel formed by HM Treasury to advise on desired policy and legislative change prompted by the financial crisis.

Before joining Ropes & Gray, Ms. Moran was a financial services and investment management partner in the London and Dublin offices of Dechert LLP. Prior to that, Ms. Moran worked at Invesco, where she was the head of legal for the U.K. and Ireland.

Ropes & Gray has a market-leading global investment funds practice, and this step demonstrates the firm’s continued commitment to its clients and their businesses. Ropes & Gray’s leadership role in the industry has been recognised in Band 1 of Chambers USA, Band 1 in The Legal 500 and top-tier rankings in U.S. News & World Report – Best Lawyers “Best Law Firms” report. The firm also garnered the 2009 and 2012 Chambers Award for Excellence, presented to the pre-eminent U.S. investment funds practice.

Bryan Chegwidden, co-head of Ropes & Gray’s investment management practice, said “Michelle’s experience in the fund industry and private practice will offer our clients a unique perspective on the regulatory and business challenges they face in Europe.”

Ms. Moran’s arrival marks the latest high-profile hire at Ropes & Gray’s London office, with finance partner Mark Wesseldine joining the firm in April this year. This latest addition brings the London team to over 70 lawyers, including a senior team of 22 partners and counsel, and top-tier capabilities in debt finance, funds, high yield, restructuring, special situations, financial services regulatory, tax, corporate and private equity.
