With a focus on business-related disputes, Colella represents companies in civil litigation and has significant experience before state and federal trial and appellate courts across the country. Widely published, Colella’s writings are relied upon by state and federal courts.

“Thompson Hine’s platform is the right fit for my practice,” said Colella of his decision to join the firm. “I am looking forward to joining a firm with an expanding litigation practice and a focus on client service and value. My clients will benefit from the firm’s excellent capabilities in corporate, commercial and public finance, litigation and international trade. The innovative management at this firm was also a major selling point for me – to say that I was impressed with Managing Partner Debbie Read and D.C. Partner-in-Charge David Wilson is an understatement.”

Before entering private practice, Colella joined the U.S. Department of Justice’s Honors Program and served as a trial lawyer for the Justice Department’s Civil Division of the Justice Department, where he handled toxic-tort claims and a variety of other civil litigation issues at the federal trial and appellate levels for agencies including the Department of the Army, Small Business Administration and Department of Energy.

Thompson Hine’s Washington office remains poised for growth, having moved last year to a larger space at 1919 M Street, N.W. “We are very excited to welcome Ugo to our Washington office,” said David A. Wilson, Washington office partner-in-charge. “His significant litigation experience, particularly class action and multidistrict litigation, will be of tremendous benefit to our clients and will further bolster the firm’s strong litigation practice. He is also quite personable and engaging and will fit in well with Thompson Hine’s culture.”

Colella’s addition follows the arrivals of highly respected construction litigator Lawrence M. Prosen, well-regarded intellectual property and IP litigation lawyers Clifton E. McCannJohn W.
