Troutman Sanders LLP is pleased to announce that corporate and tax lawyer William G. Fendley, IV has returned to the firm as a partner in the Richmond, Virginia office.
Fendley had been a partner at McGuireWoods LLP, where he practiced in areas including partnership taxation, taxation of indebtedness, financial instruments, structured products and innovations in global capital markets.
“Bill is a great addition to our very successful closely-held businesses practice based in our Richmond office. In addition, his vast tax experience will further expand our national tax capabilities,” said Andrea Farley, head of Troutman Sanders’ Corporate Department.
Fendley’s practice extends to domestic and cross-border M&A, both inbound and outbound; divestitures; taxable and tax-free reorganizations; recapitalizations; and spin-offs. It also includes domestic and cross-border taxation of derivatives and hedging transactions (e.g., forwards, futures, swaps, options and notional principal contracts), including drafting and negotiating of tax provisions of ISDA Master Agreements and related documentation.

Fendley earned an LL.M. from New York University, a J.D. from the University of Dayton and a B.A. from Emory & Henry College. He is an active member of both the American Bar Association Section of Taxation and the Virginia State Bar, where he previously served as Chairman of the Tax Section.
