Baker & McKenzie Bogota Grows M&A/Private Equity Practice with New Partner

The Bogota office of Baker & McKenzie is pleased to announce that Juan Manuel de la Rosa has joined the Firm as a partner in the M&A/Private Equity Practice Group.

With more than 14 years of experience, Juan Manuel’s primary areas of practice include mergers and acquisitions and private equity, among others, advising private equity investors, as well as private and publicly held companies, in complex mergers, acquisitions and disposition of assets in Colombia and in Latin America.

“Juan Manuel’s joining the Firm is great news for Baker & McKenzie. His extensive M&A and private equity experience and client relationships are a perfect complement to our existing transactional capabilities in Bogotá and the region,” said Jaime Trujillo, Baker & McKenzie managing partner in Colombia and head of Latin American M&A and Private Equity. “He is recognized by clients and colleagues as a leading lawyer in his field, and has a proven track record in managing complex transactions. He will be great resource for our clients, and will be instrumental in our continuing efforts to expand our Latin American practice.”

Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, Juan Manuel was the General Counsel of C.I. Prodeco S.A., the Colombian wholly owned subsidiary of Glencore Xstrata, and managed all legal aspects and governmental relations of one of the principal mining operations in Colombia. Before Prodeco, he was a foreign associate at Chadbourne & Parke in New York and at other reputable law firms in Colombia, and was a founding partner at De la Rosa, García & Asociados.

Juan Manuel recently advised two private equity investors on the acquisition of a minority interest of Colfondos S.A. (a pension fund administrator in Colombia), the sale of the shares held by a private equity investor of an insurance company in the Dominican Republic to Suramericana, and the share issuance of one of the largest real estate developers in Colombia to an international private equity fund.

Juan Manuel received his juris doctor degree with honors from Universidad de la Los Andes after being nominated for a scholarship for academic excellence, and holds an LL.M degree from Columbia University where he graduated as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.
