BakerHostetler announced today that Gary S. Lutzker and J. Christopher Redding have joined the firm’s Business Group as Partner and Of Counsel, respectively, in its Washington, D.C., office. Both come to BakerHostetler from Dow Lohnes, PLLC.

Lutzker and Redding focus their practice on communications and telecommuncations law, regulation, transactions and policy. In the policy arena, they prepare comments in administrative rulemaking proceedings and advise clients on the operational impact of federal and state laws and regulations affecting the telecommunications and cable television industries.

Before going into private practice, Lutzker served as telecommunications counsel for the City of New York Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications and prepared and negotiated franchises and requests for proposals involving the use of municipal rights-of-way by telecommunications and cable television providers. He earned his J.D. from Yeshiva University’s Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 1993 and served as editor-in-chief of its Arts & Entertainment Law Journal. Prior attending law school, Lutzker performed as an arranger, orchestrator, copyist, and instrumentalist for radio and television commercial announcements, television and motion pictures, Broadway and Off-Broadway theater, and symphonic productions.

After graduating with honors from Duke University in 1974, Redding played and coached in the professional basketball leagues in Holland and Sweden. Redding earned his J.D. with honors from the University of Tulsa in 1979, where he served as the notes and comments editor for its Law Journal. Prior to commencing private practice, Redding served as a judicial clerk for two years for Judge William J. Holloway, Jr. in the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

“Gary’s and Chris’s extensive regulatory experience and knowledge of the communications industry and the laws and governmental policies that regulate it will benefit our media and telecommunications clients in their transactions and policy matters as they seek to grow their businesses in a rapidly changing industry,” said Jeffrey H. Paravano, managing partner of BakerHostetler’s Washington, D.C., office. “With a combined fifty years of communications and telecommunications law experience, they will significantly enhance our teams’ capabilities.”

“Chris and I are excited to join BakerHostetler and look forward to assisting its clients in the communications industries with executing their transactions and addressing their regulatory needs,” said Lutzker. “The firm maintains strong commitments to client care and professional development, and it is an honor to join them,” said Redding.
