Leading Banking and Finance Partner Joins Chadbourne’s London Office

Chadbourne & Parke announced today that leading banking and finance lawyer Partha Pal has joined the firm as a partner in the London office. Pal comes to Chadbourne from the London office of Sidley Austin LLP, where as a partner he focused on cross-border banking and structured finance transactions and related restructurings, contentious and regulatory matters.

“Strengthening Chadbourne’s banking and finance capabilities in London is critical to enhancing our ability to execute emerging-markets transactions governed by English law,” said Adrian Mecz, managing partner of Chadbourne’s London office. “Partha has an entrepreneurial spirit that has helped him to develop significant business relationships with an array of financial institutions that are active in both established and emerging markets. We are delighted to welcome him to Chadbourne.”

“Chadbourne & Parke is a marquee brand name in the energy, infrastructure and emerging markets areas, with deep expertise and client relationships,” Pal said. “I am excited by the opportunity to develop my own practice further by combining my experience in the structured finance area with Chadbourne’s traditional strengths, offering a very focused service to both providers and users of debt finance.”

Pal has more than 15 years of experience in complex finance transactions. He has represented borrowers and lenders in commercial real estate finance, commodities finance and acquisition finance transactions, where funding has been sourced through the bank market. Pal has also represented a variety of participants in structured capital markets transactions involving commercial and residential mortgage loans, consumer loans, equipment leases, trade receivables, non-performing loans and public sector loans, funded through short- and long-term capital market debt instruments. He has also recently advised clients on using the capital markets as a source of financing for European infrastructure projects, an area which is of particular importance to Chadbourne, given its extensive infrastructure practice and which has attracted the attention of policy makers in Europe.

Much of Pal’s work is cross-border in nature. He has handled transactions in the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Bulgaria, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, India, Mongolia, South Korea, Indonesia and China. Chambers Global recognized him in particular for his “expertise in matters relating to Singapore,” having previously been based in the Sidley Austin Singapore office.

He earned his MA in law from Cambridge University and his LLM from Georgetown University Law Center.
