Latham & Watkins – Leading Litigator Joins London Litigation Practice

Latham & Watkins is pleased to announce that Simon Bushell has joined the firm’s London office as a partner in the Litigation Department. Bushell is a senior litigator, with substantial experience of large-scale, cross border, commercial litigation.

Bushell represents clients across a range of sectors, including banking and financial services, energy, commodities and governmental. He has undertaken complex investigations and multi-jurisdictional proceedings relating to frauds, conspiracies and insolvencies and has obtained numerous freezing injunctions, third party disclosure and search orders. He has also advised in relation to breaches of trust and fiduciary duty, professional negligence, bribery and corruption and shareholder disputes.

“We are thrilled to have Simon join our team,” said Nick Cline, London Office Managing Partner of Latham & Watkins. “We have a vibrant and growing London office, with close to 250 lawyers, and Simon’s arrival is another milestone in our expansion.”

“The increase in multi-jurisdictional dimensions to be considered in the business world means that corporates, financial service institutions and governments have to look at their risk and exposure to litigation on a global scale. Simon’s experience on a wide range of multinational matters, in particular those with Russian/CIS related claims, means we will be looking to him to help drive further growth in our capability across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, as well as in London, and makes him a terrific addition to the firm,” commented Sean Berkowitz, Global Chair of the Litigation Department.

“I am leaving many friends behind at Herbert Smith Freehills, a great firm which has provided me with many opportunities. It’s time for a change and a new challenge. I am relishing the opportunity to make a major contribution to the growth, direction and success of the Latham practice in London and internationally. Latham & Watkins has one of the premier international litigation practices, with a tremendous global footprint and high quality resources,” said Bushell.

Bushell joins Latham & Watkins from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he co-chaired the London-based Corporate Fraud and Asset-tracing practice, launched its Russian Disputes practice and led the firm’s Crisis Management team.
