K&L Gates Adds Seattle Technology Transactions Partner

Global law firm K&L Gates LLP welcomes Kate Spelman as a technology transactions partner in the firm’s Seattle office. Spelman joins K&L Gates from Cobalt LLP.

Focusing her practice on copyright, content, social media policy, and digital publishing, Spelman is a widely recognized thought leader who advises clients not only on current law but, where appropriate, on anticipated legal issues and developments and on the reciprocal impacts of the intersection of new technology with old law. Additionally, Spelman counsels on a variety of media and licensing matters, including the development, production, sale, and defense of intellectual property. She also has substantial experience in the anti-counterfeiting enforcement area.

“We are very happy to welcome Kate to K&L Gates,” said Phil Guess, Administrative Partner of K&L Gates’ Seattle office. “She appreciates that intellectual property is not one-dimensional in a global market: for any given business or product, intellectual property and data privacy are threads ideally woven into a unique tapestry of protection in global markets.”

David McDonald, a Seattle partner and global co-leader of K&L Gates’ intellectual property practice area, added: “The world is rapidly changing as digital content increases in importance to commerce and social media channels draw advertising interest. We’re fortunate to have Kate’s vision and capabilities to help address the challenges these changes present.”
