Douglas M. Irvin, considered one of the most highly respected condominium lawyers in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, has joined Holland & Knight as a partner in the firm’s Washington office. Mr. Irvin was most recently a partner at Mulrenin & Associates and, prior to his affiliation with that firm, he ran the condominium practice at Linowes and Blocher.
“Doug is an excellent transactional real estate lawyer. His vast experience in structuring and documenting condominium and mixed-use projects throughout the Washington region will provide our developer clients with a substantial resource in the areas of condominium and air rights development. Doug’s presence in our group will enable Holland & Knight to substantially expand its development capabilities in this market,” said David Kahn, the leader of Holland & Knight’s Mid-Atlantic Real Estate Practice Group. “Doug has overseen the structuring and development of many of the largest and most complex condominium and vertical developments in the Washington area over the past 10 years. We are delighted that a lawyer of Doug’s reputation and experience in the condominium and air rights fields will now be a part of our firm’s real estate practice.”
Mr. Irvin counsels clients from the early planning stages through project completion, a skill highly valued in the real estate community. He has been practicing law for more than 25 years and represents many of the largest and most highly visible developers and builders of residential and commercial condominium, mixed-use and air rights development projects. Mr. Irvin represents his clients in connection with all facets of the planning, creation and operation of retail, office, commercial, mixed-use and residential associations, master planned communities, condominiums, homeowners associations and other common interest developments.
The matters for which Mr. Irvin counsels clients include the drafting and review of reciprocal easement agreements, covenants and cost-sharing mechanisms for strip centers, industrial parks and adjacent property owners; the structuring of complex vertical developments in urban in-fill and redevelopment areas; due diligence reviews of fractured condominium regimes for lenders, purchasers and successor developer entities; the creation of land and air-rights condominium regimes; issues relating to compliance with the Federal Interstate Land Sales Full Disclosure Act; and the representation of developers and builders of resort-oriented communities.
“I believe that Holland & Knight’s national and local platforms will enable me to increase the range of development projects for which I serve as legal counsel. It is an exciting and challenging prospect, and I am eager to join my new colleagues to enhance the firm’s real estate practice,” said Mr. Irvin. “I can now offer my clients an even broader array of legal services including zoning, hospitality and time-share development, environmental law, tax law, construction law, employment law and litigation.”
