Former In-house Counsel and Private Practice Attorney Joins Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis Office

Robert B. Hebert, a veteran attorney with in-house and private practice experience, has joined Barnes & Thornburg LLP’s Indianapolis office as a member of the firm’s Corporate Department.

Hebert has experience assisting companies with mergers and acquisitions, commercial transactions, intellectual property portfolio management, litigation and claims, risk and insurance management, corporate compliance, among other areas of concern. In addition, he has experience representing a number of interstate and local motor carriers and short line railroads with respect to regulatory and operational-related matters.

“Bob is well known in the Indianapolis legal and corporate communities, and we believe he can help boost our Corporate Department’s capabilities in a number of areas,” said Robert T. Grand, managing partner of the Indianapolis office.

Hebert assists small- to mid-size businesses in various industries that need experienced general counsel support. He previously served as Vice President and General Counsel for The College Network, Inc., a company engaged in the publication and sale of educational materials. In addition, from 2006-2009, he served as Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Aearo Technologies LLC, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of personal protection equipment and specialty foam materials.

Hebert also has experience working in private law practice in Indianapolis. He was a partner at the former Bingham McHale LLP. He also was a partner from 1990-2001 at the former Johnson Smith LLP. During his private practice, Hebert served as outside general counsel for the Indiana Cable Telecommunications Association, Inc., Mayflower Warehousemen’s Association, Inc. and Central Indiana Buick Dealers Advertising Association, Inc.

About Robert B. Hebert

He is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Association of Corporate Counsel, Indiana Chapter; American Bar Association; Indiana and Indianapolis Bar Associations. He also is a member and former Chair of the Grievance Committee of the Indianapolis Bar Association and a member and former Utility Law Section chair of the Indiana State Bar Association.

He is admitted to practice in front of the Indiana Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana.

He received a B.S. from the Indiana University Kelley School of Business. He earned a J.D. magna cum laude from the Indiana University’s McKinney School of Law, where he was Associate Editor of the Indiana Law Review.

Hebert also has been deeply involved in the local community. He serves as a Trustee and a member of the Executive Committee at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. He also is a past director and Executive Committee member of 500 Festival Associates, Inc. In addition, Hebert has previously served as President of the Washington Township Schools Parent’s Advisory Committee, Director of the Washington Township Schools Foundation, Development Chair of the Park Tudor School Father’s Association, and former Division Chair at the RCA Tennis Championships.
