Morgan Lewis Adds International Disputes Team in Frankfurt Led by Sabine Konrad

Morgan Lewis today welcomes Dr. Sabine Konrad as a partner resident in Frankfurt focusing on international dispute resolution with an emphasis on investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration. She arrives from McDermott, Will & Emery and will be joined by her team.

Sabine advises investors and governments in matters involving investment protection. She represents clients across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America, and Asia in an array of industries, including energy, infrastructure, and banking. She also has experience as a co-arbitrator and tribunal president in investment treaty arbitration and international commercial arbitration cases.

“I am delighted to welcome Sabine and her team to Morgan Lewis, where her practice leading arbitration proceedings around the world strongly complements our cross-border disputes services to clients globally,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “Sabine’s investor-state arbitration experience involving every significant arbitral rule, along with her knowledge of five languages, will be a valuable asset to our multinational clients.”

In 2007 and 2013, Sabine was appointed to the Panel of Arbitrators of the World Bank’s International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) by the Federal Republic of Germany. She is also on the panel of arbitrators of several prominent organizations, including the International Development Law Organization, Vienna International Arbitral Centre, Asian International Arbitration Centre, Singapore International Arbitration Centre, and Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre.

“Sabine is a recognized leader in the investment treaty field in jurisdictions worldwide, handling a number of firsts, including the first ICSID arbitration against Germany and the first treaty arbitration in Thailand,” said Gordon Cooney, the leader of Morgan Lewis’s global litigation practice. “Our corporate clients will gain from her significant skills as a private commercial arbitrator while international investor and sovereign state clients will benefit from her substantial experience with treaty/ICSID arbitrations.”

Additionally, Sabine founded the Frankfurt International Arbitration Moot Court and in 2005 she helped establish the Frankfurt International Arbitration Center, a cooperation facility of the ICSID for investment treaty arbitrations in Germany.

“I am very excited to welcome Sabine to our Frankfurt office,” said Jörg Siegels, managing partner in Frankfurt. “She is an internationally recognized arbitrator who is well known in the local legal community and is highly regarded by her peers.”
