Clifford Chance Strengthens Dispute Resolution Practice With Hire of Christine Gärtner

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has strengthened its German dispute resolution team with the hire of Christine Gärtner from US law firm Latham & Watkins. Christine will join Clifford Chance’s Frankfurt office as partner.

Christine Gärtner specialises in complex litigation and arbitration proceedings, with extensive knowledge of corporate, banking and securities disputes. She has significant experience supporting clients in shareholder lawsuits, post-M&A disputes and product liability litigation. Her clients include national and international companies, banks and other financial institutions, as well as board members. She regularly represents clients in domestic and international arbitration proceedings and also acts as an arbitrator herself.

Following the arrival of litigator and arbitration expert Moritz Keller last year, Clifford Chance’s addition of Christine Gärtner shows continued investment in the firm’s dispute resolution practice.

Peter Dieners, Managing Partner of Clifford Chance in Germany, comments: “Attorneys such as Christine Gärtner, with her outstanding ambition and great potential, will help us continue our strategic drive to lead the German market, with the best team to advise clients. The addition of Christine complements our existing strong German and international dispute resolution team, and further deepens our bench. Our clients will greatly appreciate this.”

Matthew Newick, Global Head Litigation & Dispute Resolution at Clifford Chance, says: “The German litigation market is growing, and continues to be an attractive market for litigation funders. With Christine Gärtner, we further strengthen our international profile in litigation and arbitration, adding a first-class litigator who brings significant experience and market knowledge to our successful team.”

Clifford Chance continues to invest across all practice areas in Germany. In addition to Christine Gärtner, the firm has recently added as partners Philipp Klöckner (Capital Markets), Michael Dietrich (Antitrust), Steffen Schellschmidt (Banking and Financial Law), Moritz Keller (Litigation/Arbitration), Thomas Voland (Public Commercial/Regulatory) and Markus Stephanblome (Corporate/M&A).

Clifford Chance’s global Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice includes approximately 500 lawyers in Europe and the UK, the Middle East, Asia/Pacific and the US, providing dispute resolution and regulatory advice across the spectrum. The team advises clients from a variety of sectors including Citi, News Group, Raytheon, ZTE Corporation and Standard and Poor’s.
