Orrick Continues to Grow IP Licensing & Tech Transactions Team with Rising Star in Germany

Orrick announced today that Benedikt Migdal has joined the firm as a partner in our IP Licensing & Technology Transactions practice, based in Düsseldorf. He is the 7th partner addition to this practice since September. Benedikt joins the firm from Hengeler Mueller.

“We’ve assembled an exceptional team of IP licensing and tech transactions talent across the U.S. and in London over the last eight months. We’re excited to add a rising star like Benedikt to the team and build out our capabilities in Germany and Europe. We plan to continue to grow this world-class team in Europe in the coming weeks,” said Matthew Gemello, leader of Orrick’s global Corporate practice.

“Benedikt brings deep experience in an area that is critical to our clients and their ability to innovate in their business models and industries. He also has stellar experience in patent and trade secret litigation – a valuable asset in assisting our clients in enforcing their IP. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the firm,” added Oliver Duys, Co-Leader, with Christoph Brenner, of Orrick’s German offices.

Benedikt advises German and international clients on IP and technology issues arising from complex corporate transactions. His work also encompasses advising on patent, know-how and trademark licenses, technology transfer agreements, R&D collaborations, as well as trade secret protection and enforcement. He also represents clients in patent infringement disputes, particularly matters involving standard essential patents and related antitrust issues, as well as on patent matters in the life sciences sector.

“Orrick has a terrific global platform and an energetic and forward-looking German team. I’m excited for the opportunity to collaborate with the talented team of partners that the firm has brought together and continue to grow Orrick’s IP/IT and Privacy practice in Germany,” said Benedikt.

Benedikt is the latest in a series of lateral hires across the firm’s Bay Area, Boston, New York, London and Washington, D.C. offices who have joined the firm’s IP Licensing & Technology Transactions practice, including Daniel Forester from Davis Polk, Sarah Schaedler from Kirkland, Colleen McDuffie from Arnold & Porter, Shana Solomon, formerly the GC of Velocity Sciences, David Schulman from Dechert and Faraaz Samadi from Milbank.
