BakerHostetler Names Poe Leggette Lead of National Energy Practice

BakerHostetler is proud to announce that Poe Leggette has been named leader of its award winning national energy practice and will relocate to the firm’s Houston office. Leggette joined the firm in 2014 and has served as co-leader of the firm’s 80-member multidisciplinary energy team, as well as being Partner-in-Charge of the Denver office.

Our multidisciplinary team has been a leader in the energy industry, advising and protecting our clients as we help them address their most important business, litigation and regulatory needs,” said Leggette. “I look forward to strengthening and expanding our team from Houston. It is an exciting time to be an energy lawyer, and I am grateful for the opportunity to lead our team, with members located in 10 of our offices across the country.”

Leggette, who was named a 2015 “Colorado Lawyer of the Year” by Law Week Colorado maintains an active energy litigation and transactions practice. Under Leggette’s co-leadership, the Energy team earned the distinction as one of the top energy practices in the United States when Law360 named the team a 2015 Practice Group of the Year. Leggette was recently recognized by the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) for providing “25 Years of Outstanding Legal Representation” to the IPAA.

Leggette has litigated many of the country’s leading cases concerning the development of oil and gas onshore and offshore in the last 35 years. As a former Assistant Solicitor for the U.S. Department of the Interior, Leggette has leveraged his experience as an advisor to the Bureau of Land Management and the Minerals Management Service. His practice focuses largely on litigation, transactional work, and regulatory counseling related to oil and gas development onshore, on lands owned by the federal government, and on leases on the Outer Continental Shelf.

Leggette received his J.D. from the University of Virginia and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Tufts University.
