Faegre Baker Daniels – Michael K. Bolton Brings Transactional Oil and Gas Practice to the Mountain West

Michael K. Bolton, a nationally known transactional oil and gas lawyer from the Houston, Texas market has moved his energy practice to Faegre Baker Daniels LLP.

Focused principally on upstream and midstream transactions in the domestic and international energy sector, Bolton’s work includes mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, financings and project development. Previously a partner at DLA Piper in Houston, Bolton’s reputation as a large-deal transactional expert in the energy industry is a valuable add to the Colorado legal market that will specifically benefit its oil and gas industry client base.

Bolton’s recent representative transactions include the acquisition of producing properties in the Permian basin for the U.S. operating affiliate of a publicly traded Canadian foreign asset investment trust, the acquisition of producing properties in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and the Gulf of Mexico for domestic and international private equity-sponsored E&P companies, efforts to dispose of refining assets along the Texas Gulf Coast, and a $1 billion deal to secure rights for a major Russian oil company to 21 exploratory blocks in Brazil’s Solimões basin.

Bolton joins a robust and growing energy team at FaegreBD. “Michael’s arrival at FaegreBD completes our strategic search over the last 18 months to enhance our legal services to the oil and gas industry in the Rocky Mountain West and abroad,” said Jim Spaanstra, partner and leader of the energy, resources and clean technology industry group at the firm. “We now offer a world-class team of oil and gas industry lawyers to support up-market transactions in the energy sector, with a particular emphasis on oil and gas resource development and its related midstream and oil field services activities.”

Added FaegreBD managing partner Andrew Humphrey, “As a result of this and several other strategic staffing additions in our Colorado offices in 2012, our oil, gas and other energy sector clients can now obtain from FaegreBD the type of transactional energy legal services predominately delivered in the U.S. out of Houston, Texas.”

Bolton earned his LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2001, his J.D. from American University in 1998, and his bachelor’s degree from Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1990.
