Prominent Commercial Litigator R. Allan Pixton Joins Quinn Emanuel in Chicago

Adding to its growing Chicago office and strengthening its capabilities in complex multidistrict litigation and class-action defense, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP today announced that R. Allan Pixton has joined the firm as a partner, resident in Chicago. Pixton joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner. At Quinn Emanuel, Pixton will be a member of the Complex Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) and the Class Action practice groups, the firm said.

As a trial lawyer, Pixton has a wide range of experience in a broad array of complex commercial, class action, and mass tort litigation matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the country. He has extensive experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes class actions, product liability, environmental, breach of contract, consumer protection, fraud, RICO and TCPA matters, among others. He also has a strong commitment to social justice and pro bono work.

“Allan will be a great addition to our firm. He has an outstanding reputation based on his time with Kirkland & Ellis, and he will broaden and expand it with Quinn Emanuel,” said John B. Quinn, the firm’s Founder and Chairman.

A cum laude graduate of Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, Pixton has in the past represented General Motors in various putative class actions alleging product liability and violations of consumer protection statutes. Additionally, he represented GM in multidistrict litigation and related matters arising out of various recalls.

“Allan is a first-class trial lawyer, and we are delighted he has decided to join Quinn Emanuel,” said Jonathan C. Bunge, Co-Chair of the firm’s National Trial Practice and Managing Partner of the Chicago office. “Our Chicago office continues to grow, with deep roots in this market and global reach.”

Pixton also played a key role in several litigation matters arising from the Deepwater Horizon incident, including congressional and government investigations. He also represented BP in a lawsuit filed against the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), in which BP challenged the legality of EPA’s decision to suspend BP from entering government contracts and leases. The matter was successfully resolved when EPA lifted the suspension.

This year, the National Law Journal named Pixton an ‘Immigration Law Trailblazer’ for his pro bono work with immigrants and asylum-seekers coming to the United States.

“I am thrilled to be joining Quinn Emanuel, which has a peerless reputation for having the best trial lawyers in the world. For business litigation, they are simply in a class by themselves. I am excited to be practicing with this outstanding team of lawyers,” Pixton said.
