Prominent Commercial Litigation Paul Collier Joins Quinn Emanuel in Chicago

Continuing the growth of its Chicago office and strengthening its capabilities in patent and product liability litigation, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, LLP today announced that Paul Collier has joined the firm as a partner, resident in Chicago. Collier joins from Kirkland & Ellis, where he was a partner.

As a trial lawyer, Collier has a wide range of experience in a broad array of intellectual property, mass tort litigation and product liability matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts across the country. Collier, for example, served as trial counsel for BP in the Deepwater Horizon matter, developing and successfully executing BP’s trial strategy, and General Motors in the General Motors Ignition Switch MDL and related matters. Recently, Collier has been trial counsel for Polaris, the off-road vehicle (ORV) manufacturer, in numerous commercial class action and product liability cases involving its side-by-side vehicles. In intellectual property matters, Collier has worked in courts across the country as well as in the United States International Trade Commission.

“Paul is a terrific addition to the firm. He made a name for himself as a top-flight litigator while at Kirkland & Ellis, and his reputation will grow with Quinn Emanuel,” said John B. Quinn, the firm’s Founder and Chairman.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, Collier joined Kirkland & Ellis in 1999, and rose to partner in 2006, where he served on several committees, including the Operations Committee. Collier is active in the Chicago community, serving as Executive Director of Kit Fit LLC, a nonprofit organization devoted to equipping junior athletes of underrepresented communities with essential sports equipment, and working with The Honeycomb Project, a Chicago-based charitable organization focused on family volunteering.

“Paul is a first-class trial lawyer, and we are delighted he has decided to join our firm,” said Jonathan C. Bunge, Co-Chair of the firm’s National Trial Practice and Managing Partner of the Chicago office. “Quinn Emanuel’s Chicago office continues to thrive, with deep roots in this market and global reach.”

“I am excited to be joining Quinn Emanuel, which is known for having the best trial lawyers in the world. For the kinds of cases I do – product liability, mass torts and IP – they are simply in a class by themselves. I am thrilled to be practicing with this outstanding team of lawyers,” Collier said.
