Paul Hastings Continues to Strengthen Its Premier IP Litigation Practice

Paul Hastings LLP announced today that prominent IP litigator Doug Sawyer has joined the firm’s elite Intellectual Property Litigation practice as a partner based in Chicago. Sawyer is joining from Perkins Coie LLP.

“Doug’s complex patent and trade secret litigation experience enables us to continue building our capabilities and further grow market share in an important practice area for the firm—particularly in the cutting-edge technology, medical device, and consumer product sectors,” said Naveen Modi, global co-chair of the intellectual property practice at Paul Hastings. “We plan to continue to invest in and expand the IP practice across the globe, including in California, New York, Washington, D.C., and Europe,” said Modi.
Sawyer represents some of the world’s most sophisticated companies in connection with their most important patent infringement, trade secret misappropriation, false advertising, and trademark protection matters. He also advises clients and negotiates on all aspects of IP protection, asset purchases, and strategic alliances, as well as agreements relating to technology and licensing.
Sawyer’s arrival adds further depth to the firm’s IP practice and builds on the strategic growth of the litigation team, including recent IP additions Jason Raeburn in London, Matthias Kamber in California, and Kecia Reynolds in Washington, D.C. Sawyer also is the most recent litigation partner to join Paul Hastings this year, following securities litigator Jennifer Conn, trial lawyer Josh Berman, and international arbitration partner Garreth Wong.
With a culture of excellence and collaboration among its deep and diverse bench, a strong track record of success, and the ability to handle parallel litigation regardless of the forum (e.g., district courts, ITC, PTAB, arbitrations, or appellate), Paul Hastings’ IP litigation practice is consistently recognized for its exceptional work by leading directories and publications, including Chambers and Partners, IAM, The Legal 500, Managing IP, and Benchmark Litigation. Additionally, BTI Consulting has recognized Paul Hastings as a Go-To Litigation Firm and Best for Complex IP Litigation in its annual Intellectual Property Outlook report.
The firm continues growth throughout its core litigation practices, including intellectual property litigation, complex litigation, securities litigation, financial services investigation and regulation, and investigations and white collar defense.
