Labor Management Relations Partner Tom Posey Joins Seyfarth

Seyfarth announced today the arrival of partner Thomas J. Posey to the Labor & Employment department and Labor Management Relations practice group in Los Angeles and Chicago. Posey joins from Reed Smith LLP, where he was a partner in its Labor, Employment, & Benefits practice in Los Angeles and Chicago.

In his practice, Posey regularly handles labor relations and employment issues for businesses ranging from startups to the Fortune 500. He often serves as chief labor negotiator for companies from a variety of industries, including hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and automotive. Posey counsels clients on a myriad of complex labor issues and represents employers in collective bargaining, unfair labor practice proceedings, grievance arbitrations, and responses to union organizing campaigns.

“Tom is an excellent lawyer who adds distinctive depth to our premier labor management relations practice,” said Laura Maechtlen, chair of Seyfarth’s Labor & Employment department. “He is heralded by clients from California to Chicago, and we look forward to his practice expanding on Seyfarth’s national platform.”

In addition to his traditional labor practice, Posey has significant employment litigation and trial experience in front of state and federal judges and juries, arbitrators, and many administrative agencies. He also advises businesses on effective management strategies for unionized workplaces and frequently speaks on harassment, employment discrimination, and other human resources matters.

“As we strategically grow our California labor practice, Tom brings the ideal combination of remarkable knowledge and strong client relationships,” the co-managing partners of the firm’s Los Angeles office, Aaron Lubeley and Richard Mendelson, said in a joint statement. “He is also a dynamic employment litigator who has successfully defended every segment of the economy.”

“Tom is a very smart and accomplished labor relations attorney and we’re thrilled to call him a new colleague,” the co-managing partners of the firm’s Chicago office, Tracy Billows and Cory Hirsch, said in a joint statement. “He started his career in Chicago and has since built an impressive national practice that complements our deep bench of talent throughout the country.”

Admitted to practice in California, Illinois, and Minnesota, Posey earned his J.D., with high honors, from Chicago-Kent College of Law. He received a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from the University of Illinois at Chicago and earned his B.S. from Illinois State University.
