Jones Day welcomes intellectual property litigator Rita J. Yoon to Chicago Office

The global law firm Jones Day has announced that Rita Yoon has joined the Firm’s Intellectual Property Practice as a partner in its Chicago Office.

Ms. Yoon focuses her practice on high-stakes technology driven litigation, especially patent litigation, in which she has won numerous jury verdicts and appeals. She is active in all phases of litigation from pre-matter investigations through trial and appeal, to the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Ms. Yoon has successfully represented plaintiffs and defendants in disputes relating to various technologies, including the smartphone, headset, wireless communications, digital entertainment, LED television, and pharmaceuticals.

Ms. Yoon recently served as counsel in a $600 million antitrust case which resulted in a complete defense verdict for the client, defeating a $48 million damages claim on behalf of a smartphone manufacturer, and, in a closely watched case before the U.S. Supreme Court, representing amicus curiae to clarify the standard for patent eligibility of computer-implemented claims. In addition to litigation, Ms. Yoon counsels clients on licensing and patent portfolio evaluations. She has represented a diverse range of clients in the car software systems, wireless communications, LED television, medical device, and sports equipment industries in developing global patent licensing strategies.
