Cooley Grows Elite M&A Practice in Seattle

Nicholas Davis has joined Cooley’s mergers & acquisitions practice as a partner in Seattle. Arriving from Perkins Coie, he will play an integral role in supporting Cooley’s companies platform and its growing buy-side practice.

“Nick brings extensive experience handling high-profile and complex M&A, which will be instrumental as we continue to see heightened demand and increasing buy-side work,” said Jamie Leigh, partner and co-chair of the firm’s global M&A practice alongside Barbara Borden. “His valuable insights will strengthen our national capability and our presence in Seattle as we expand our footprint in the city.”

Davis represents public and private companies in a variety of US and cross-border transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, carve outs and other complex business transactions. While most active in the technology sector, Davis also has experience advising companies across industries ranging from media and entertainment, life sciences and retail to agribusiness, transportation and business services.

“I’m excited to join Cooley’s elite M&A practice, particularly as the firm builds out its buy-side repertoire,” Davis said. “With a reputation for exceptional culture, I look forward to collaborating with the M&A team’s sophisticated dealmakers, and helping mentor talent as Cooley advises on the most innovative, market-leading deals.”

As global mergers and acquisitions hit record levels in 2021 and topped $5 trillion for the first time, Cooley’s M&A practice continued to handle a large number of public and private transactions. With 365+ deals and more than $260 billion in aggregate deal value last year, Cooley was one of the most active M&A firms in the world, according to Bloomberg’s 2021 Global M&A Market Review Legal Rankings. The firm’s activity in 2021 – which included handling deals across various industries while maintaining its market-leading position in technology and life sciences – earned the firm top recognitions in Bloomberg and Mergermarket’s M&A legal rankings.

Cooley’s world-class transactional team has worked on 1,500+ M&A deals for an aggregate value of $520+ billion since 2017, and has guided leading companies and private equity sponsors in some of the market’s largest and most complex transactions. With 180+ members, the M&A group spans 17 major business and technology centers in the US, Europe and Asia, and represents all categories of participants in transactions. Last year, Cooley’s M&A practice welcomed partners Erin Kirchner and Neal Aizenstein to the firm’s recently established Chicago office.
