Baker Botts Adds Leading EU Antitrust Partner to its Brussels Office

Baker Botts L.L.P., a leading international law firm, today announced that Matthew Levitt has joined the firm’s Antitrust Practice as a Partner. Mr. Levitt, recognized as one of the leading competition lawyers in Europe by Chambers and other publications, will be based in the Brussels office, where he will strengthen an already highly acclaimed antitrust team on both sides of the Atlantic. Mr. Levitt joins Baker Botts from Hogan Lovells where he served as the Brussels Office Managing Partner.

“Matthew is an outstanding antitrust practitioner with a wealth of experience in dealing with competition law and enforcement issues in the EU, the UK and around the world. The fact that a lawyer with Matthew’s track record and experience has moved to our firm really speaks to the growing reputation of our international antitrust practice and reflects our commitment to further strengthen our presence in the market,” said Andrew M. Baker, Managing Partner of Baker Botts.

“Matthew has a stellar reputation in EU antitrust and brings deep industry expertise in the maritime and energy fields. We are thrilled that he has decided to join our firm. His arrival will increase our already impressive international bench strength and add significant value for our clients,” said Catriona Hatton, Partner-in-Charge of the Brussels office and Co-Chair of the Firmwide Antitrust Practice.

“Baker Botts is widely known as one of the leading global Antitrust firms, with a world class clientele and an outstanding reputation for commitment to excellence and service delivery. This is a very exciting opportunity for me,” said Matthew Levitt.

Mr. Levitt’s practice has focused on EU and international cartel investigations and multi-jurisdictional merger filings. He has worked on landmark UK and EU maritime competition issues, including the creation of the 2M shipping alliance, the international roll-on roll-off shipping cartel and the EU price signaling case. Mr. Levitt also has extensive experience in the energy and natural resources sector, having worked on M&A transactions and investigations in the electricity, gas, ports, water, utilities, and infrastructure arena.
