Anita Varma Joins White & Case as a Partner

Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that Anita Varma will join the Firm’s Global Intellectual Property (IP) Practice as a partner in its Boston office. Varma will work closely with the Firm’s Pharmaceuticals & Healthcare group and will provide strategic patent counseling to global life sciences and technology clients throughout every stage of the patent cycle.

Varma is qualified to practice in Massachusetts, Maryland, New Jersey and England and Wales. She represents life sciences and technology companies in their procurement and acquisition of IP and their resolution of IP disputes and has an active practice before the US Patent & Trademark Office and the European Patent Office.

“Anita has significant experience counseling companies on their IP strategies, as they try to differentiate themselves in a very competitive business environment,” says Dimitrios Drivas, Head of White & Case’s Global IP Practice. “She will further enhance our Practice’s capabilities to help clients navigate various IP laws, which look to foster and protect innovation.”

Formerly the co-head of Ropes & Gray’s IP rights management practice group, Varma regularly conducts strategic reviews of her clients’ patent portfolios to identify their strengths and weaknesses, and how her clients can minimize threats and maximize revenue.

She also conducts IP due diligence in connection with financial investments, mergers and acquisitions, and collaborations in the US, Europe, and other countries, and advises on listing and delisting drug products in the US Food and Drug Administration’s Orange Book.

The addition of Varma demonstrates the Firm’s ongoing commitment to expanding its Boston office. She also is the latest addition to White & Case’s Global IP Practice, following the hiring this year of partner Carrie LeRoy and last year’s hiring of Christopher Carroll, Charles Larsen and Lindsey Canning.

The lawyers in White & Case’s Global IP Practice protect and defend their clients’ innovations, creative works and brands around the world.
