Wilson Elser Bolsters Southern Region with Team of Eight Lateral Attorneys in Jackson, Mississippi, and Birmingham, Alabama

National law firm Wilson Elser announced today that eight attorneys from Baker Donelson have joined the firm in Birmingham, Alabama, and Jackson, Mississippi.

Partners David Hall and William Waudby and of counsel Charles Grimes, Andrew Walsh and John Hundscheid have joined the firm’s existing Birmingham office. Partners Stephen Kennedy, Cable Frost and Robert Walker have joined the firm’s newly opened 38th office in Jackson. Hall and Kennedy serve as the regional managing partners of the respective offices.

“This is an exciting time for the firm,” said Daniel McMahon, chair of Wilson Elser. “Since opening our Atlanta office in 2017 with the goal of expanding throughout the south, we have opened four additional offices – Birmingham, Nashville, Mobile and now Jackson – and expanded our New Orleans office with a lateral group from Fowler Rodriguez. Together with our existing offices in Texas, Kentucky and Florida, this solidifies our foothold in the region and enables us to better service our clients across all of our practices.”

“The acquisition also bodes well for our national Transportation practice and our 24-hour Emergency Response Team,” added Jeffrey Melcher, managing partner of the firm’s Southeast Region. “These are two of our more active practices firmwide, and the new team gives us an even deeper bench of skilled attorneys and greater geographic coverage. We are thrilled to have them on board.”

The team, led by Hall and Kennedy, focuses on the transportation sector, primarily handling casualty and general liability matters, commercial contracts and other business-related matters. The team’s practice also encompasses product liability and commercial matters beyond the transportation sector. It includes toxic tort in Birmingham and commercial and general litigation, construction, data breach and cybersecurity, and trusts and estates disputes in Jackson.

Former chair of Baker Donelson’s Transportation Practice Group, Hall represents private and for-hire motor carriers as national and regional counsel and represents insurance companies and utility contractors on matters involving pipeline, trucking and construction accidents.

Kennedy serves as national and regional counsel for several trucking companies. He has significant experience defending catastrophic damages claims against motor carriers and product manufacturers in product liability suits. Kennedy’s trial practice also includes representing insurance companies in coverage and bad faith litigation, and architects and design professionals against claims of construction negligence.

Hall and Kennedy have joined Wilson Elser’s national 24-hour Emergency Response Team and serve as the primary contacts for Alabama and Mississippi, respectively.
